Still Bad Weather… No Change But Another Dumpster

Still Bad Weather… No Change But Another Dumpster

It is Sunday, February 4. I woke up to the sound of freezing rain on the skylight.

When I first came here, this was all swamp. Everyone said I was daft to build a castle on a swamp, but I built it all the same, just to show them. It sank into the swamp. So I built a second one. And that one sank into the swamp. So I built a third. That burned down, fell over, and then sank into the swamp. But the fourth one stayed up…

The only change on the building site? Another new dumpster was delivered Tuesday, January 30.

Another Dumpster

This is a dumpster. Also called a roll-off, although I have never heard it called a roll-off. My gramma says it is for construction debris. That would be a good sign, then. They eventually plan to do some construction.

Roll-off container on roll-off truck (not ours)

The difference is, a roll-off doesn’t have a lid and is rectangular to ride on a truck. It is “rolled off” into place. It is supposed to have a swinging door on the end. I haven’t checked ours. It was cold and I took my pictures from the car as we drove by visiting our future house to see if anything had changed. We didn’t expect much, since it hasn’t really stopped raining and snowing since January 22, the last post. I didn’t get to see the roll-off delivered, but this is how it is done.

A long time ago, when I lived in Ft. Lauderdale, I had the same kind of dumpster when I got a new roof. They parked it on our driveway and it sank in. I bet there is still a roll-off print on the driveway at that house.

Original Black Dumpster

Anyway, that’s all. No other changes. We still have the original black dumpster. Why two? I am guessing they are for different types of debris. I don’t know. Just my guess.

(We found out why we got a new dumpster. The black one belongs to the subcontractor and he needed it back.)

Otherwise, it looks the same. My daughter says perhaps they are confused and think we are termites and are building us a termite mound house. My husband says we have been invaded by GOUSs (Gophers Of Unusual Size).

At least with a construction loan, the mortgage payment is only on the first draw, so it is low.

We did not get approved for a mortgage loan from the retirement account. Long explanation, but the answer was no. So we just borrowed the additional money as a plain old loan. The interest is not tax deductible and we have 5 years to pay it back instead of 15… Why we need more money >

And that’s where we are. Here is the forecast. We are under his elbow.
