American Farmhouse Kitchen Plan<\/h2>\n
This is the plan from his first farmhouse. It was inspired by an abandoned farmhouse he found in a Virginia forest.<\/p>\n This kitchen is small, 9-feet wide by 8-feet long. I really like the idea of the corner cupboard by the refrigerator.<\/p>\n A corner cupboard provides a bookend to soften the icy modernity of the fridge.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n This is a more detailed plan for the kitchen.<\/p>\n The plan calls for a very small fridge, stove and optional dishwasher.<\/p>\n He sourced a Blomberg BRFB1042SS 24″ 10.6 cu. ft. Counter Depth Bottom Freezer Refrigerator. The measurements are 23 3\/8″ wide, 24 3\/8″ deep and 67 3\/8″ high. That model is discontinued now, but the new version, Blomberg BRFB1322SS 24″ 13 cu. ft. Counter Depth Bottom Freezer Refrigerator is nearly the same size, 23 2\/5″ wide, 26 1\/2″ deep and 72 1\/2″ high. And it holds more.<\/p>\n A Refrigerator That Fits: Blomberg BRFB1042SS<\/strong><\/p>\n Some refrigerators are built like tanks. They occupy an enormous amount of space. This one can fit well inside small houses without sacrificing any functionality. It also lives up to many energy requirements.<\/p>\n American Farmhouse Book I learned the hard way about a kitchen plan with smaller than typical appliances. It really limits you. I had a hard time finding a fridge that was short enough to fit under the cabinet over my fridge at my log cabin. When that fridge went, I just took the top cabinet out so that I could use a taller fridge that held more. I was lucky. I had used the exact same style of cabinets in my office and one of them fit over the new fridge.<\/p>\n American Farmhouse Kitchen Floor Plan Detail<\/strong><\/p>\n KEY NOTES FIXTURES<\/p>\n X-00 REFRIGERATOR Inexpensive Cabinetry: IKEA Sektion<\/strong><\/p>\n You\u2019re not expected to put this together by yourself, but you can. Use glass doors for the upper kitchen cabinets.<\/p>\n American Farmhouse Book The cabinets shown are IKEA AKURUM. It’s been discontinued, but as far as I can tell, the current cabinets come in all of the same sizes.<\/p>\n On February 2, 2015, and after 20 years of production, our entire AKURUM kitchen range was replaced with a new range called SEKTION!<\/p>\n Information on AKURUM – IKEA’s previous kitchen system<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n The Kitchen Schedule recommends painted doors. The notes say to use glass doors for the top cabinets. These cabinets are standard sizes that you can find anywhere.<\/p>\n The countertop sourced is IKEA AKERBY. That’s discontinued too, but it’s not difficult to find countertop.<\/p>\n American Farmhouse Kitchen Elevation<\/strong><\/p>\n KEY NOTES FIXTURES<\/p>\n X-00 REFRIGERATOR It shows a double sink in the drawing, but the sink Jay sourced is a single deep farmhouse style sink, the Highpoint Collection 24-inch Italian Fireclay Kitchen-Laundry Sink.<\/p>\n It is 9-inches deep, which I love. It can be mounted under or over the counter. I actually prefer a single deep sink. You can fit more in it.<\/p>\n This is the sketch of this side of the kitchen from the American Farmhouse Book.<\/p>\n This is the opposite side of the kitchen. The stove is only 24″ wide. There aren’t as many options available in a 24″ wide stove, but they are not hard to find. I’ve had them. Mine still had four burners, three small and a large. The oven was big enough for one cookie sheet or one lasagna pan. If you aren’t much of a baker, this likely won’t bother you.<\/p>\n American Farmhouse Kitchen Elevation<\/strong><\/p>\n KEY NOTES FINISHES<\/p>\n F-60 HARDWOOD FLOOR This is the sketch of this wall from the book.<\/p>\n The end wall has a countertop that is only 12″ deep. Standard countertops and bottom cabinets are 2-feet deep.<\/p>\n Every inch matters in a tiny house. In the kitchen, a narrow countertop provides space for chopping and whatnot, with open shelves below.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n He puts open shelves above and below the counter. In the book he recommends using wall cabinets for closed storage instead.<\/p>\n On the north wall, use 12-inch wall cabinets as floor units, which gives you more storage and countertop space.<\/p>\n American Farmhouse Book This is the sketch of the end wall from the book.<\/p>\n Although this is a very small kitchen, it is really adorable and very usable. There is a lot of storage and counter space. I like the dishwasher option, too.<\/p>\n This is the full kitchen schedule from the plans.<\/p>\n Kitchen Fixture & Equipment Schedule<\/strong><\/p>\n X-00 REFRIGERATOR 25x25x69″ ENERGY STAR BLOMBERG \/ BRFB1042SS There are a lot of things shown in the book that aren’t in the plans.<\/p>\n The Dollhouse Section<\/strong><\/p>\n This section slices through almost every room in the house, revealing the simplicity of the massing and spatial organization.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n A farmhouse did not have an open floor plan. The kitchen was a separate room.<\/p>\n Despite the heavy marketing of open-plan houses, a compartmentalized room layout allows for more privacy and versatility of uses. The living room can easily become a guest bedroom. Add a door to the kitchen, and you can isolate the noises and smells. As every introvert knows, it\u2019s nice to have your own room. Make a place for each experience.
