We really fell in love with the quality of the Westwood Cabins when we toured. One of the standard plans is very much like what we have been looking at from Deer Run cabins. But when we toured the factory, we walked through a lot of different layouts to consider.<\/p>\n

The kitchen is one of the the biggest differences in the floor plans, so we are going to begin with choosing the kitchen.<\/p>\n

Pass-through Kitchen Layouts<\/h2>\n

Most of the cabins we walked through had the kitchen in the center of the cabin. Living room on one end, bedroom on the other end. Walk through the kitchen in between. The bathroom and a stacked washer and dryer is tucked in across from it.<\/p>\n

The kitchen is not smashed up against the wall in a hallway. There is plenty of room for someone to walk through without getting in the way of someone cooking. Westwood Cabins are wider than Deer Run Cabins.<\/p>\n

This layout has plenty of upper and lower cabinets and a pantry for plenty of storage. There is space for the fridge, stove, microwave and dishwasher.<\/p>\n

There is plenty of\u00a0 counter space and an overhang to fit a counter-height stool or two.<\/p>\n

Notice that there is full access to the corner cabinet with a door on this side. The handle is up in the corner so you won’t bang your knee or catch on it as you sit at the bar. They really thought of everything!<\/p>\n

The living room is right off the kitchen.<\/p>\n

This is the smallest kitchen we toured. There is space for a table and chairs by the window.<\/p>\n

The kitchen is small, but there is space for a full-sized stove and microwave, a dishwasher and a fridge.<\/p>\n

Notice the wall already has water run to it, ready to hook up a fridge with ice-maker.<\/p>\n

This pass through kitchen has a deep counter height bar to eat at. There is that cabinet door again. This time the handle is on the other side. That might make it more convenient to get into the cabinet.<\/p>\n

This time they used contrasting upper cabinets and open shelving.<\/p>\n

You can select a single or double basin stainless steel sink or a farm-style sink in stainless steel, black or white.<\/p>\n

We were impressed by how well-made the cabinets are. All solid wood with nice quality soft-close hinges.<\/p>\n

Open Floor Plan Kitchens<\/h2>\n

Here are three different plans that have an open floor plan kitchen that is not a pass-through. These have more room and, in my opinion, have a better work flow.<\/p>\n

This kitchen has a counter-height island instead of a bar. That’s what I put in my log cabin so I could walk around in either direction.<\/p>\n

Interesting adding the beam to suspend the pendants.<\/p>\n

This is the layout for this kitchen.<\/p>\n

This is the kitchen layout without the bar. It leaves more space for a table and chairs.<\/p>\n

This floor plan has a walk-in closet with the washer and dryer in the closet.<\/p>\n

This kitchen is almost the same layout as the one we had decided on earlier from Deer Run Cabins. I like the other ideas, but I keep coming back to this. I really love it and I think this is what we will buy.<\/p>\n

There is plenty of work space. It’s bright and open. People can sit at the bar and keep you company in the kitchen without being in the way or underfoot. I really love it.<\/p>\n

This floor plan shows an actual laundry room pantry, too. I do love a laundry room.<\/p>\n

I think we are pretty sure we are going with this plan.<\/p>\n
