It is now called MasterSeal 582. There are a lot of variations of MasterSeal. The one that used to be called Thoroseal is MasterSeal 582. It is \u201cA waterproof cement-based coating for exterior below-grade for concrete and masonry.\u201d<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><strong>Thoroseal\/Masterseal<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Formerly known as Thoroseal, manufactured by Chemrex, has been rebranded Masterseal 581 (dry) or 583 (wet, in bucket), since Chemrex was purchased by BASF. Masterseal is a cement-based, waterproof coating for concrete and masonry. It is NSF approved for sealing concrete or masonry tanks storing potable water. It is also used to seal the concrete base of culvert tanks.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.harvestingrainwater.com\/resource\/materials-and-suppliers-2\/sealers-approved-for-contact-with-potable-water\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Sealers Approved for Contact with Potable Water<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<figure id=\"attachment_13481\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-13481\" style=\"width: 500px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-13481\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.projectsmallhouse.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/02\/new_crawl-saw.jpg?resize=500%2C375&#038;ssl=1\" alt=\"\" width=\"500\" height=\"375\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-13481\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Concrete saw cut a new crawl space opening<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>First thing in the morning I saw a truck so I dressed warmly and went to see what was going on. There was an odd smell, kinda like burning something strange.<\/p>\n<p>They had cut out a new crawl space on the other side of the foundation.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_13477\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-13477\" style=\"width: 500px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-13477\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.projectsmallhouse.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/02\/crawl_opening.jpg?resize=500%2C375&#038;ssl=1\" alt=\"\" width=\"500\" height=\"375\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-13477\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Crawl space cut open on the other side of the cabin<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>I had my doubts about the original location of the crawl space entrance.<\/p>\n<p>They had moved the piece they cut out to the other side and mortared it into the original crawl space opening.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_13484\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-13484\" style=\"width: 500px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-13484\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.projectsmallhouse.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/02\/parging-a.jpg?resize=500%2C375&#038;ssl=1\" alt=\"\" width=\"500\" height=\"375\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-13484\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Parging with MasterSeal 582, a waterproof cement-based coating for exterior below-grade for concrete and masonry.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>A parge coat is a thin coat of mortar, similar to stucco, but slapped on with a brush. Using a waterproof kind of mortar coating accomplishes both with one process. They covered from the footers to the top of the foundation wall.
