Part 1: Putting the Modular Cabin on the Foundation"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The crane was rescheduled because of weather. First thing yesterday morning the dogs lost their minds. Trucks and a crane were pulling in. We are finally going to have the cabin out of the mud and sitting on the foundation!<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_13673\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-13673\" style=\"width: 500px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.projectsmallhouse.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/03\/crane_day-a.jpg?resize=500%2C375&ssl=1\" class=\"size-full wp-image-13673\" alt=\"\" width=\"500\" height=\"375\"><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-13673\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">A crane and trucks showed up just before 8:30 yesterday morning.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>It had been beautiful for days. The mud had dried up. Even the forecasted rain had been pushed off till later.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_13674\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-13674\" style=\"width: 500px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.projectsmallhouse.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/03\/crane_day-b.jpg?resize=500%2C375&ssl=1\" class=\"size-full wp-image-13674\" alt=\"\" width=\"500\" height=\"375\"><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-13674\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">They took down part of the silt fence and drove the crane halfway between the foundation and the cabin stuck in the mud.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>The first crane company said they were going to have to move the cabin incrementally, since it was further from the foundation than it was supposed to be. The crane operator sits in a cab on the rotex gear that turns. These weights are put in behind him. They turn with the cab.<\/p>\n<p>The rotex gear spins side to side. The boom is the part that sticks out. It lifts up and down and telescopes in and out. The operator uses foot pedals and joysticks to control everything.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>Detachable counterweights are placed on the crane\u2019s back and help prevent the crane from being unbalanced during the lifting operation. They go in a specific order, so the one on top was set on the ground, then the bottom one was put into place on the crane and the one on the ground was lifted into place on top of it.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_13682\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-13682\" style=\"width: 500px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.projectsmallhouse.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/03\/crane_day-j.jpg?resize=500%2C375&ssl=1\" class=\"size-full wp-image-13682\" alt=\"\" width=\"500\" height=\"375\"><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-13682\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Measuring the cabin<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Meanwhile they walked through the cabin to get an idea how the weight is distributed. They measured the outsides. This helps them know where to put the cables that will suspend the cabin.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_13683\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-13683\" style=\"width: 500px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.projectsmallhouse.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/03\/crane_day-k.jpg?resize=500%2C375&ssl=1\" class=\"size-full wp-image-13683\" alt=\"\" width=\"500\" height=\"375\"><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-13683\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Removed the wood that pushed things out of the way during delivery<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>While they worked on that, someone took off the wood thing that pushed branches and utility lines over the roof during transportation.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_13684\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-13684\" style=\"width: 500px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.projectsmallhouse.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/03\/crane_day-l.jpg?resize=500%2C425&ssl=1\" class=\"size-full wp-image-13684\" alt=\"\" width=\"500\" height=\"425\"><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-13684\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Slid a cable under the little Westwood Cabin<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>They put cables on the spreader bar and slid them as far as they could under the cabin.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_13685\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-13685\" style=\"width: 500px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.projectsmallhouse.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/03\/crane_day-m.jpg?resize=500%2C375&ssl=1\" class=\"size-full wp-image-13685\" alt=\"\" width=\"500\" height=\"375\"><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-13685\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Used wood to protect the cabin from the cable<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>They made sure to keep wood under the cable so it didn\u2019t damage the roof.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_13686\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-13686\" where it seemed like it would be.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_13688\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-13688\" style=\"width: 500px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img mud<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Once they had one end out of the cabin out of the mud, they started sliding a second cable under it.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_13689\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-13689\" style=\"width: 500px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.projectsmallhouse.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/03\/crane_day-q.jpg?resize=500%2C375&ssl=1\" class=\"size-full wp-image-13689\" alt=\"\" width=\"500\" height=\"375\"><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-13689\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Wood keeps the cable from damaging anything<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>More wood was wedged in to keep the cable from sliding over anything.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_13690\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-13690\" style=\"width: 500px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.projectsmallhouse.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/03\/crane_day-r.jpg?resize=500%2C375&ssl=1\" class=\"size-full wp-image-13690\" alt=\"\" width=\"500\" height=\"375\"><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-13690\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Put blocks under the cabin<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>They placed blocks and timbers under the cabin. Then they set it back down.<\/p>\n<p>This post ended up way too long, so I broke it into two parts.
