Compact Cottages is a local (Asheville area) company that builds small efficient houses from pre-fabricated pieces for \u201cbetween $200k – $350k for a brand new home (not including land costs).\u201d \u00a0The houses are cost-effective, with a small footprint. Floor plans are logical, with every inch maximized.<\/p>\n

The houses might be Modern Farmhouse, but could easily work with any style d\u00e9cor. They aren\u2019t rustic like most of the small modular cabins I\u2019ve found. Inside, the homes don\u2019t have all of the fussy \u201cfancy\u201d stuff that makes some of the small modular homes look like single-wide trailers.<\/p>\n

The prices for each floor plan build are very reasonable. They save money by building faster and more efficiently.<\/p>\n

Compact Cottage builds much of the house in a \u201cHouse Factory\u201d on Sweeten Creek Road in Asheville. \u00a0This large warehouse makes prefabricated house pieces.<\/p>\n

[The House Factory can] assemble full length home walls with windows and siding already installed, complete bathroom \u201cpods\u201d with fixtures, and turnkey prefabricated ADU \u201cbuilding blocks\u201d that could function standalone or be connected for any size home. It\u2019s an exciting time as it takes straight aim at our company mission to be a leader in affordable housing solutions.<\/p>\n

Less Waste and Faster Construction<\/h2>\n

Panel, pre-fab and modular construction can reduce waste.<\/p>\n

When Schumacher Homes built our house, we could not believe how much they threw away. We rescued perfectly good building materials out of the skip over and over.<\/p>\n

Compact Cottage assembles houses from standardized panels instead of framing on-site. That way lumber can be efficiently cut to get the most out of each board. Less waste saves money (and less ends up in the landfill).<\/p>\n

Panelized walls are built quickly in Compact Cottage\u2019s House Factory. They are labeled and stored inside and out of the weather. Once the construction site is ready, the panels are loaded in the right order, moved to the site and set in place by crane or telescoping forklift.<\/p>\n

How Fast?<\/h2>\n

Traditional stick framing for a house can take anywhere from 3 to 6 weeks. \u00a0Compact Cottages can frame and raise houses in just a matter of days.<\/p>\n

An example on Facebook shows how fast panelized construction can go. The foundation photo is taken \u00a0\u00a0on October 16. By November 28 the house is \u201cframed, sided, decks built, windows\/doors in, and rough electric and plumbing are done.\u201d<\/p>\n

In our house factory, we are now building full-length wall panels, allowing homes to be assembled faster than ever onsite.<\/p>\n

Our awesome team then rotates through, each adding pieces of the puzzle from sheet rock and insulation to flooring, tile, and paint.<\/p>\n
