That means roof rises 5 inches for every 12 inches of horizontal distance. Most houses have a roof pitch between 4\/12 and 9\/12. The flatter a roof is, the more leaves or snow will accumulate on the roof. But a roof with a steeper pitch uses more materials, so costs more.<\/p>\n<p>You can order the cabin shell with a different roof pitch. That is probably because dormers don&#8217;t actually have to have windows.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><strong>Dormers<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>On cabin shells with second floor space, dormers add curb appeal, usable space and natural light. \u00a0Choose from flat roof dormers or gable roof dormers.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>The Calumet Cabin Shell does not have a second floor. I don&#8217;t see any way to put a gable dormer into a roof with such a low 5\/12 pitch. You could potentially add a flat roof or shed dormer. It sorta makes that part of the wall higher with a roof with even less pitch over it.
