We have been talking about and looking at campers for years. Cliff wants a project camper, sort of a hobby project.<\/p>\n

Last summer we rented a camper and took it across North Carolina and up the Outer Banks. A rental camper is a great idea. You pay for the week you are going to use. Someone else makes the payments, pays the insurance, does the maintenance…<\/p>\n

I was surprised how much it costs to stay at campgrounds. They were often reserved ahead with no availability. The other thing we found out is, many campgrounds will not let you stay if your camper is over 10 years old. Not a problem with the one we rented, but it would be a problem with the one we were thinking about buying.<\/p>\n

Cliff still wanted to re-build one. He had lots of ideas. We were also astonished at what people think their old campers are worth. Add that to what it is going to cost to fix them up… I argued for just renting one any time we want to go anywhere. The owners will even take it where you want to go and have it already set up when you get there. That is not at all what Cliff has in mind.<\/p>\n

Then Friday an old Scotty showed up on Facebook Marketplace. We had a Scotty when I was a kid. The price was right.<\/p>\n

Here is a closer look. I don’t even see the part that holds an awning.<\/p>\n

Google Lens thinks this is an SJ series Jeep Cherokee, produced from 1974 through 1983. If so, that helps date the photo.<\/p>\n

The awning shown in this older photo looks the same kind of awning the camper we just bought came with.<\/p>\n

I found a lot of photos of Scotty trailers in Gramma’s photo albums. Gramma and Grampa had a Scotty, too? Or it’s the same one with changes.<\/p>\n
