We saw this A-Frame driving down A1A and I just had to share it.<\/p>\n

There are little windows poking out of the roof on both sides.<\/p>\n

The house is right on the beach.<\/p>\n

There is additional parking on the dunes on one side.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

The dunes are on both sides of the house right up to the roof.<\/p>\n

The deck wraps all the way around from the street side, along one side of the house and then is a larger deck on the beach side.<\/p>\n

About A-Frame Houses<\/h2>\n

The house on the left is in Casas T\u00edpicas de Santana, a cultural site in Madeira, Portugal. They are little shops now. The one on right is an old photo of a sod roof A-frame house in Holland.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

A-frame houses and other building have been around forever. They were in the South Pacific islands, China and even some parts of Europe.<\/p>\n

Architect R.M. Schindler modified the form to build an A-frame in Lake Arrowhead, California in 1934. The home was for Gisela Bennati. \u00a0Other architects designed A-frame houses and eventually they caught on as second homes. A-frames popped up in the mountains and on the beach. \u00a0They were relatively cheaper and easier to build. They even came as kits.<\/p>\n

This is a plan provided by the Cooperative Extension of North Carolina through the North Carolina State University. The North Carolina Agricultural Extension Service started in 1914 and they are still around. They helped our family a lot when we first moved to North Carolina and tried to farm.<\/p>\n

When I searched, I found the same plans are offered through other state\u2019s Cooperative Extension. There are some other plans, too.<\/p>\n
