This great kitchen is in a house that is for sale on the Shetland Island of Unst.<\/p>\n

When you think of living on an island, you probably think of tropical beaches. That\u2019s not the Shetland Islands.<\/p>\n

I started following the Shetland News on Facebook when I started reading the mystery novels by Ann Cleeves.<\/p>\n

This house is at 10 Brakefield Crescent, Haroldswick<\/p>\n

Affordable three bedroom semi-detached property, understood to have been built in the mid-1970s, in a small estate in the village of Haroldswick on the island of Unst, Britain\u2019s most northerly inhabited island.<\/p>\n

The double-glazed accommodation\u2026 is arranged over two floors\u2026<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

I guess this means the windows are double-glazed?<\/p>\n

The house has a \u201clarge modern fitted kitchen\/diner with integral appliances.\u201d<\/p>\n

Kitchen\/diner is what we call eat-in kitchen. By fitted, they mean the cabinets are installed to the walls and integral appliances also means installed.<\/p>\n

The stainless steel sink has a single basin and a built-in drainboard.<\/p>\n

I don\u2019t even know what all of these outlets could be for. It looks like what is behind the bed in a hospital room.<\/p>\n

There is a small garden area to the rear which enjoys an open outlook over the surrounding countryside, accessed via the rear lobby. To the front is a small bricked paved area plus the ramp leading to the front door. The property also has shared use of the drying green to the side of the house, whilst there is public parking right outside the house.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

By garden they mean yard.<\/p>\n

These look like the stacked stone walls that are on all of the property lines and on the sides of the roads in Ireland.<\/p>\n

One bedroom and the bath are also downstairs, they call it a \u201cshower room\u201d which makes sense, since there is actually no bath tub.\u00a0 The bathroom is modified for the disabled, with\u00a0 a walk-in shower. They call it a \u201cwet room style shower room.\u201d<\/p>\n

There is a towel warmer. I loved the towel warmers I found in the B&Bs in Ireland so much, I came home and bought one.<\/p>\n

Guests from England are always surprised that we just don\u2019t have bidets here in our bathrooms.\u00a0 At least not often.<\/p>\n

It has three bedrooms, two upstairs and one downstairs. Both upstairs bedrooms have skylights and really big closets.<\/p>\n

So, convinced yet? Don\u2019t you want to live on Unst?<\/p>\n

It is sold \u201cfixed price\u201d \u00a368,000. Sometimes they are \u201coffers starting at\u2026\u201d<\/p>\n

Brakefield Crescent is situated in Haroldswick at the north end of Unst, Britain\u2019s most northerly inhabited island which measures approximately 12 miles long by five miles wide.<\/p>\n

Although the island has a population of only around 650 it has excellent amenities most of which are based in Baltasound, the main population centre a few miles south of the house, where there is a Junior High School, superb leisure centre\/swimming pool, several local shops (one with fuel), post office, garage, doctors surgery, care centre, hotel and marina. Haroldswick itself has a heritage centre and small boat museum, a tea room plus a small brewery at the Saxa Vord resort.<\/p>\n

Unst has many places of interest in particular Hermaness National Nature Reserve, Keen of Hammer Reserve, fine beaches at Norwick, Skaw, Sandwick and Westing, Muckle Flugga and also Muness Castle.<\/p>\n

The island is connected to mainland Shetland by regular ro-ro ferry service which runs throughout the day from Belmont at the south end of Unst, to the neighbouring island of Yell (approximately 10 minute crossing), and from Yell to Toft on mainland Shetland (approximately 20 minute crossing).<\/p>\n
