I comparing the price of the cabinets I picked out on the Home Depot website with what I can get at Lowes and didn’t find anything to make me change my mind.<\/p>\n

I like the 42\u201d high cabinets for the wall. But I have decided that I prefer the unfinished cabinets I can paint.
\nUnfortunately, they don\u2019t come in as many sizes. We can make it work, though.<\/p>\n

At the log cabin I finished my shelves by painting them yellow, sanding some of the paint off and then clear coating over it. I love the way the grain showed through the wood that way.<\/p>\n

Hampton and Easthaven Shaker Unfinished Cabinets<\/h2>\n

There are two versions, Hampton and Easthaven Shaker. It is easy to see the difference side by side. Hampton has a front or frame. Easthaven Shaker is frameless.<\/p>\n

I’ve had both. You can stuff more into a frameless cabinet, but things might roll out. I personally kinda prefer the look of the Hampton, with the frame.<\/p>\n

Hampton costs a little less, but has fewer options. Hampton doesn’t have the blind base. I can use the Corner Base with Lazy Susan. But I don\u2019t like the hinged door and the Lazy Susan doesn\u2019t give as much space as a cabinet without anything in it. I could just take it out. SEE UPDATE BELOW<\/strong><\/p>\n

I came up with the idea of the corner sink base. It has one large door to access what is in the corner. But it doesn’t fit under an inexpensive standard countertop.<\/p>\n

So, back to the wall with the washer and dryer on it. The wall is 10\u2019 4\u201d wide. I have used two corner cabinets with two 36\u201d wide cabinets between them.<\/p>\n

Below that I have the washer and dryer taking up some of the space. The sink base takes up 36\u201d. Then I can put a 24\u201d cabinet beside it. It might not line up perfectly with the upper cabinets, but carefully lining things up perfectly gives me a lot of narrow less useful cabinets. It\u2019s a laundry room. I will live with it.<\/p>\n

The 42″ tall cabinets aren’t available unfinished, so I moved the cabinets down to make them more accessible. I can still stack stuff on top of them. It is a laundry room. It’s OK to stack junk up.<\/p>\n

On the right side wall by the door I will now have about 54\u201d more or less. That gives me room for two 27\u201d base cabinets. Or a 36\u201d with an 18\u201d. Or a 30\u201d with a 24\u201d. Lots of options.<\/p>\n

The upper cabinets won\u2019t line up on that side anymore, so we have to change that.
\nComing from the corner cabinet I have to add another 12\u201d to line up at all. So go with the 24\u201d on the bottom with the 36\u201d making up the difference? Then the 30\u201d wall over the 30\u201dbase.<\/p>\n

A pantry on the left wall really gives me the most storage. I don’t want to get close to the front of the washer, even though it is 10″ to 12″ away from the wall. This gives me quite a bit of storage.<\/p>\n

That is about half what I started out with.<\/p>\n

The sides are unfinished. That’s what the details are. You have to order the sides where they are going to show. I guess I will have to have something to cover part of the other side of the pantry, too.<\/p>\n

The very bottom of the base cabinets is unfinished, too. In my last kitchen I just bought wood and covered it. We have a lot of leftover trim we rescued when they were building our house. I plan to just use that.<\/p>\n

Hampton Unfinished Cabinets<\/h2>\n

Above are the Hampton unfinished cabinets. See how the frame shows? Below are the Easthaven Shaker cabinets. See how you can only see the doors in front?<\/p>\n

The interior is finished on both, “Natural maple-laminated interior allows for effortless cleaning.” So no comparison and no need to paint that.<\/p>\n

There are more cabinets available in Easthaven Shaker.<\/p>\n

It really does look just as good. I have to keep reminding myself that it is the laundry room!<\/p>\n

The sides aren\u2019t finished on the Eastlake or on either of the unfinished cabinets, the Easthaven Shaker \u00a0line or the Hampton.<\/p>\n

The pantry cabinet end panel, EH2490E-GB for the Easthaven Shaker is $52. It is only $19 for the one for the Hampton pantry. Why? Would the one for the Hampton pantry work on the Easthaven? I am very tempted to find out.<\/p>\n

The side panel for the upper cabinets, EH1236E-GB is $24. The base end panel, EH2430E-GB is $28.62.<\/p>\n

So let’s price it out with the Easthaven Shaker cabinets. Things are adjusted to use the blind base.<\/p>\n

Here is a different idea for the left wall. I can use two 54″ wide cabinets. The 100″ for that wall is from the corner to a couple of inches from the light switch. Both of the ideas I came up with will actually only use 96″. Which works just fine. I don’t need any fillers or anything.<\/p>\n

I wish these came taller than 24″, but they don’t. I think this would give a lot of really accessible storage.<\/p>\n

The Hampton Wide Wall Bridge costs $109. It doesn’t seem to be available in the frameless Easthaven Shaker.<\/p>\n

The blind base DOES exist in Hampton. It wasn’t showing up on the site because it was out of stock, but they gave me the numbers and prices and it is available. So we have a plan.<\/p>\n

Cliff doesn’t want to start until we have finished two other projects we are in the middle of, which is not unreasonable. We have ordered the stove for the living room and have to put in the hearth and the mantel. Plus we have run the power and gas to the generator, but the gas flow isn’t enough, so they are coming back to change the gas. I have photos along the way and I’ll post that soon.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n
