The Calumet 576 Foot Cabin Shell from Tuff Shed

Buy a cabin shell from Tuff Shed and finish the interior yourself!

6-foot deep porch, 5/12 Roof Pitch
The Calumet 576 Foot Cabin Shell from Tuff Shed is 24 x 24 with a 6-foot deep front porch.

The entire 24-foot front is a 6-foot deep porch.
The Calumet Tuff Shed Cabin Shell has a 5/12 roof pitch. That means roof rises 5 inches for every 12 inches of horizontal distance. Most houses have a roof pitch between 4/12 and 9/12. The flatter a roof is, the more leaves or snow will accumulate on the roof. But a roof with a steeper pitch uses more materials, so costs more.
You can order the cabin shell with a different roof pitch. You can also change the eaves or overhang, how much the roof projects from the sides of the cabin.

One of the options is to make the porch deeper. Adding just two more feet makes a porch much more usable.

The cabin comes as a shell with some unfinished interior wall framing. You can change the interior floor plan. The Calumet comes with these interior walls framed to create a one bedroom, one bath house.

This is a sample layout with a realistic idea of what will fit in a 24×24 house. The bathroom is 9’6″ x 5’11”. There is a 3′ x 5’11” closet off of it that gives space for a stacked washer and dryer and a tank hot water heater.

The window on the left is in the bedroom. The smaller window is in the bathroom.

These windows open to the open floor plan kitchen and dining area.

This side of the cabin shell has the bedroom through that window. The living room has no window on this side. This would be a great place for a fireplace.

Bump out options add a lot of additional space.
Bump Out
Add interior and exterior dimension to a cabin shell with a small bump out. These are typically designed to incorporate windows or doors.

You can find the Bump Out option as Roof, not framing, where I was looking.

Dormers are listed under roof, not windows, where I was looking. That is probably because dormers don’t actually have to have windows.
Dormers
On cabin shells with second floor space, dormers add curb appeal, usable space and natural light. Choose from flat roof dormers or gable roof dormers.
The Calumet Cabin Shell does not have a second floor. I don’t see any way to put a gable dormer into a roof with such a low 5/12 pitch. You could potentially add a flat roof or shed dormer. It sorta makes that part of the wall higher with a roof with even less pitch over it. It will not add any living area, but it will let in more light and add “curb appeal.”
