IKEA Small House Inspiration

These photos are from one of the display houses at the IKEA in Jacksonville, Florida. It is a model small, not tiny, house. This model has a semi-open floor plan with a dining room that easily seats eight, a large kitchen with four bar stools and enough space for two or more to cook and not trip over each other and living room with a wraparound sectional sofa. A second model shows how counter height stools add seating to a small eat-in kitchen.

Small House Inspiration

The dining room is the perfect gathering space. It has six mixed chairs at the table and two additional chairs against the wall.

The SKOGSTA Dining table has a natural acacia wood top is over 7 ½-feet long. It is supported by a black painted base.

The NORRARYD and INGOLF Chairs are black, to coordinate with the base. The upholtered BERGMUND Chairs have black painted legs.

Mixing the two chairs adds interest to the dining room. The two chair styles coordinate while having contrasting shapes.

The long table has a 32″ long linear pendant over it, reflecting the dimensions of the table.

This semi-open floor plan model home has the kitchen open to the dining room.  The kitchen is large, with  enough space for two or more people to cook comfortably.

Keeping a simple color scheme, black, white and natural wood, keeps the space cohesive without being boring. The furniture is large for the small space, but the unified colors and style lends a sense of flow and spaciousness.

The kitchen is long, with room for multiple cooks. An additional small sink in the island makes this a natural cook/prep station.

The stove is central to both cooking areas.

The kitchen is well-designed with a lot of storage and counter space. There is enough walk space and airflow.

The second island has counter-height stools.  They tuck in under the extended counter for a tidy look.

A wall of hooks keeps aprons, towels and potholders out of the way until they are needed.

The living area is in the same room with the kitchen, divided by the islands. There is enough walk space to easily pass between the counter stools and a table behind the sofa.

Four 19″ pendants and adjustable spotlights give the work area plenty of lighting.

The living area has an L-shaped sectional sofa with a natural canvas white slipcover, a white wood cabinet with drawers and glass doors, and more storage hooks.

The L-shaped UPPLAND sectional sofa has a lot of seating with a KRAGSTA coffee table convenient to all. This arrangement opens up the rest of the room, leaving walk space.

Eat In Kitchen

This model gives some great tips for an eat-in kitchen. These ideas are great for a rental, where you can’t make big changes.

Open shelves add a lot of storage. An island adds work surface and additional storage. Two counter height stools fit under the island. Two more DALFRED stools adjust from 24.75″ to 29.125″ high.

The butcher block top on the island can be purchased to use as counter tops, too.
